FAQ

About iLLPiLL

What is iLLPiLL

iLLPiLL is a wellness brand for the stressed generation. We make clinically informed supplements, sensory wellness tools, and a multi-sensory app — built on positive tech, biophysics, and brain science.

Our products combine premium branded ingredients with FQ9™, our proprietary buccal delivery technology, to support stress resilience, calm focus, sleep health, and immune defense. iLLPiLL is engineered to give users agency over stress, not a workaround for it.

iLLPiLL offers a complete wellness ecosystem — supplements, sensory wellness tools, and a multi-sensory app — designed to work individually or together.

The Founders

Who founded iLLPiLL

iLLPiLL was founded by Myungho Choi (Co-Founder and Creative Director), Tyler Heiden Jones (CEO and Co-Founder), and Rob Davidson, Ph.D., DHA (Chief Science Officer). Myungho's personal journey using frequency-based music for healing shaped the brand framework. Rob brings over 70 patents in delivery technology. Tyler leads business strategy and brand development.

How did the iLLPiLL founders meet

Myungho Choi and Rob Davidson met by chance. The conversation began with football and evolved into the discovery that both had spent decades arriving at the same principles — frequency, vibration, and energy — from completely different disciplines.

Myungho approached these principles through years as a DJ and music producer; Rob approached them through pharmaceutical delivery technology research and more than 70 patents. The mutual recognition led to collaboration, and that collaboration became iLLPiLL.

Tyler Heiden Jones, the company's CEO, joined to build the business that brings the work to market.

What makes the iLLPiLL founder team distinct

iLLPiLL's founder team combines lived experience and scientific authority in a way that's rare in the wellness category. Myungho is the engineer of feeling — a creative director who has personally used frequency-based principles in both his music production work and his own healing. Rob is the engineer of formulation — a scientist whose patents translate frequency-based principles into engineered nano-scale delivery technology. Tyler is the engineer of the business — a brand builder with experience commercializing consumer products.

Where is iLLPiLL based

iLLPiLL is a Delaware C-corporation with offices in New York City. Our supplement products are manufactured in California in cGMP-compliant facilities.

What is iLLPiLL's brand philosophy

iLLPiLL is built on three principles: frequency, vibration, and energy. These principles run through every product — from FQ9™ supplement delivery to the 136.10 Hz Earth tone of BodyTune to the multi-sensory experience of FREQit. The framework reflects Co-Founder Myungho Choi's personal experience with frequency-based music as a tool for healing.

About FQ9™

What is FQ9™

FQ9™ is iLLPiLL's proprietary frequency-based delivery technology, built on sonication — the scientific process of applying high-frequency sound waves to transform materials at the particle level.

The “FQ” stands for frequency. FQ9 uses frequency processing to engineer active ingredients into nano-scale particles that absorb through the buccal mucosa — bypassing digestion entirely for faster delivery and more consistent dosing than traditional capsule supplements.

What is Sonication

iLLPiLL's FQ9™ frequency-based delivery technology is built on sonication: high-frequency sound waves transform active ingredients into nano-scale particles optimized for absorption through the buccal mucosa of the mouth.

Sonication is the scientific process of applying high-frequency sound waves to agitate and transform particles.

It is a well-established technique used across laboratory, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical manufacturing — including to break materials down into nano-scale particles for improved absorption.

Is FQ9™ patented

FQ9™ is built on a portfolio of patents invented by Chief Science Officer Rob Davidson, Ph.D., DHA, who holds more than 70 patents in delivery technology.

Key patents powering FQ9 and iLLPiLL products include U.S. Patent #11,160,292 (nano- and lipid-based encapsulation using frequency modulation), U.S. Patent #8,840,919 and #8,999,372 (methods for protecting bioactive compounds during formulation), and U.S. Patent #11,857,557 (stabilized film matrix).

International patent application WO2018236729A1 covers high-dose loading methods particularly relevant to MicroDose Immunity. Future iLLPiLL products will draw on additional patents from Dr. Davidson's portfolio.

How is FQ9™ different from regular supplements

Most supplements rely on capsules or tablets that must travel through the digestive system before becoming available to the body. This process is slow, degrades bioactive compounds, and varies between individuals.

FQ9 bypasses digestion by delivering nano-scale particles through the buccal mucosa, resulting in faster delivery and more consistent dosing.

Safety

Are iLLPiLL supplements safe

The FREQit app contains content for all six modes.

Where can I learn more about the science behind iLLPiLL

Detailed information about FQ9™ delivery technology is available on each product page and in the Science section of the iLLPiLL website.

Chief Science Officer Rob Davidson's published research and patent portfolio provide additional substantiation, including the peer-reviewed Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center study (PMC10425684) on buccal delivery of vitamin D.

How to use

When should I take MicroDose Calm

MicroDose Calm: Take during moments of stress or in the morning when you anticipate a demanding day. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve completely. Avoid eating or drinking for 10–15 minutes before and after use.

For complete dosing guidance, refer to the directions on each product label.

Follow the dosing instructions on the label. Do not exceed the recommended dose, and consult your healthcare provider if you are taking prescription medications or have a medical condition.

When should I take MicroDose Sleep

MicroDose Sleep: Take 30 minutes before your intended bedtime to support the natural transition into sleep.

Can I swallow iLLPiLL supplements instead of letting them dissolve

While swallowing iLLPiLL supplements won't cause harm, we strongly recommend letting the tablet dissolve completely on your tongue. This is the only way to get the full benefit of the formula.

iLLPiLL's FQ9™ technology is specifically engineered for buccal absorption — the active ingredients are processed into nano-scale particles designed to pass directly through the mucosal tissues of the mouth into circulation. Swallowing the tablet routes it through the digestive tract instead, where the actives undergo stomach acid degradation and first-pass metabolism in the liver. Several of the ingredients in our supplements, including melatonin and 5-HTP, have significantly reduced bioavailability when taken orally compared to buccal delivery.

For best results: place the tablet on your tongue, allow it to dissolve fully (typically within 60–90 seconds), and avoid eating or drinking for 10–15 minutes before and after use.

Can I take less or more MicroDose Calm than directed

MicroDose Calm is formulated to deliver an effective dose at the labeled serving size. We recommend following the directions on the product label.

Taking less than directed. Some consumers prefer to start with a lower dose to assess their individual response. If you choose this approach, you can take a partial dose at the indicated time and gradually work up to the full labeled serving as you assess tolerance. A lower dose may produce reduced effects.

Taking more than directed. Do not exceed the labeled serving size. The dosing of each ingredient has been selected based on clinical evidence for efficacy and safety, and exceeding the dose does not improve results. For several of the actives in MicroDose Calm, higher doses are associated with increased side effects rather than greater benefit. If the labeled dose is not producing the results you are looking for, please consult your healthcare provider rather than adjusting the dose on your own.

Should I keep taking MicroDose Calm after I start feeling results

MicroDose Calm is designed to provide consistent support for relaxation, and the active ingredients are formulated for ongoing use within the recommended dosing on the label.

The best results from any calm or relaxation supplement come when it's paired with the underlying habits that support a healthy lifestyle — limiting caffeine and alcohol, and managing stress. MicroDose Calm is designed to support these foundations, not replace them.

If you experience chronic or persistent stress, we encourage you to talk with your physician about identifying and addressing the root causes. MicroDose Calm is a supplement, not a treatment for anxiety disorders, and is not a substitute for medical evaluation of ongoing stress or mood issues.

If you have any questions about long-term supplement use, or if you take MicroDose Calm daily for an extended period, please consult your healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

Interactions + Safety

Can I take MicroDose Calm with other supplements

The active ingredients in MicroDose Calm — Lion's Mane, Ashwagandha, L-theanine, GABA, and 5-HTP — are generally well tolerated alongside most other dietary supplements. Because MicroDose Calm is formulated for daytime stress support, we recommend not stacking it with other sedating supplements or sleep aids during the day, as this may amplify drowsiness.

Consult your physician before starting MicroDose Calm if you are:

  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Under 18 years of age
  • Taking antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs), sedatives, blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or thyroid medications
  • Scheduled for surgery within two weeks
  • Being treated for any medical condition

Do not combine MicroDose Calm with alcohol or operate heavy machinery after use.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Can I take MicroDose Sleep with other supplements

The active ingredients in MicroDose Sleep — Melatonin, Ashwagandha, L-theanine, and 5-HTP — are generally well tolerated alongside most other dietary supplements. Because MicroDose Sleep is formulated to support relaxation and sleep, we recommend not stacking it with other sedating supplements (such as additional melatonin, valerian, kava, or high-dose magnesium glycinate close to bedtime).

Consult your physician before starting MicroDose Sleep if you are:

Can I take MicroDose Sleep and MicroDose Calm together

MicroDose Sleep and MicroDose Calm are formulated for different times of day and different purposes, and the two are designed to be complementary as part of a broader daily routine — Calm for daytime stress support, Sleep for evening wind-down.

We do not recommend taking both products at the same time. Both share several active ingredients, and combining them in a single dose would exceed the labeled serving size for those actives. If you use both products, follow the labeled timing for each: Calm during the day or before a demanding situation, Sleep 30 minutes before bedtime.

If you are taking prescription medications, are pregnant or nursing, or have a medical condition, consult your healthcare provider before combining any supplements.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Are iLLPiLL supplements safe for children

iLLPiLL supplements are formulated for adult use and are not intended for anyone under 18 years of age. We do not recommend iLLPiLL supplements for children.

Several of the active ingredients in our formulas — including melatonin, 5-HTP, and ashwagandha — have pediatric dosing considerations that differ from adult use. The appropriate dose, duration, and supervision for a child should be determined by a pediatrician rather than by adult-formulated supplements.

If a child in your household is experiencing sleep difficulty, stress, or other concerns that lead you to consider supplementation, please consult their pediatrician for guidance. Many pediatric sleep and stress concerns are best addressed through behavioral and environmental interventions, and a pediatrician can help determine whether supplementation is appropriate.

Keep iLLPiLL supplements out of reach of children.

Can I take antibiotics and iLLPiLL supplements at the same time

If you have been prescribed antibiotics, we recommend consulting your physician before taking iLLPiLL supplements during your course of treatment. Your physician can advise on whether your specific antibiotic has any interaction considerations with the ingredients in our supplements.

If use is approved during your antibiotic course, we suggest taking iLLPiLL supplements several hours apart from your antibiotic dose. This is general guidance for spacing oral medications and supplements, and helps avoid any potential interference with absorption.

Ingredients + Sourcing

What criteria does iLLPiLL use when sourcing L-Theanine

We use a high-grade, naturally fermented L-Theanine produced via an enzymatic fermentation process. It is verified as 100% pure L-isomer at ≥99% overall purity — a critical distinction, since cheaper synthetic L-Theanine often contains up to 50% inactive D-isomer that delivers no benefit. Every batch is confirmed by HPLC, screened for heavy metals to meet or exceed USP limits, and independently tested by a third-party lab. Our L-Theanine is non-GMO, allergen-free, and produced in a cGMP-certified facility.

What criteria does iLLPiLL use when sourcing GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid)

We use a naturally fermented GABA produced via a fermentation process using Lactobacillus hilgardii — the same bacterial strain traditionally used in kimchi fermentation. This sets it apart from cheaper, chemically synthesized GABA found in most supplements. Every batch meets ≥99% assay purity, is screened to USP heavy metal and impurity limits, and is independently verified by a third-party lab. Our GABA is non-GMO and vegan, and is produced in a cGMP-certified facility. Its safety and efficacy are supported by multiple peer-reviewed human clinical trials.

What criteria does iLLPiLL use when sourcing 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan)

Our 5-HTP is a natural extract derived exclusively from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia plant at ≥98% purity. Every batch is independently tested for heavy metals to USP limits and verified free of Peak X, the contaminant historically associated with adverse events in lower-grade 5-HTP.

Paired with our FQ9 delivery system — which converts the 5-HTP into a fast-dissolving nano-compound absorbed through the oral mucosa — the active dose bypasses the digestive tract entirely, eliminating the gastric upset oral 5-HTP is known to cause and ensuring rapid, reliable absorption. The ingredient is manufactured in a cGMP-certified facility and supported by decades of clinical research on Griffonia-derived 5-HTP.

What criteria does iLLPiLL use when sourcing Melatonin

Our melatonin is pharmaceutical-grade crystalline powder, synthesized to meet or exceed the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) Monograph for purity and potency. This matters: a peer-reviewed analysis of 31 commercial melatonin products found actual content ranging from 17% to 478% of the labeled dose, with 26% also contaminated with serotonin.

Every batch of our melatonin is independently verified for dose accuracy and screened for process contaminants. Combined with our FQ9 frequency-based delivery system, the melatonin is converted into a fast-dissolving nano-compound absorbed through the buccal tissues, which bypasses first-pass metabolism in the liver — a meaningful advantage given that orally swallowed melatonin has a bioavailability of only ~15% with high variability between individuals.

The ingredient is vegan, non-GMO, and produced in a cGMP-certified facility.

What criteria does iLLPiLL use when sourcing Ashwagandha Root Extract (5% withanolides)?

We use a clinically studied, full-spectrum ashwagandha root extract produced through a green-chemistry process that uses only water as the extraction solvent — no alcohol or chemical solvents. It is standardized to ≥5% withanolides, the active compounds responsible for ashwagandha's effects on stress, sleep, and cortisol regulation.

The extract is derived exclusively from the root (not the leaf, which has a different chemical profile and is sometimes substituted in cheaper products to inflate withanolide yield). Every batch is tested for heavy metals to USP limits, screened for pesticides and microbial contaminants, and supported by peer-reviewed human clinical research. Our ashwagandha extract is non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, and produced in a cGMP-certified facility.

What criteria does iLLPiLL use when sourcing Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus)

We use whole fruiting body lion's mane — not mycelium grown on grain, which is the cheaper and far more common form found in most supplements. The distinction matters: mycelium-on-grain products are typically 50–90% grain filler by weight, and independent testing has repeatedly found that the actual mushroom content — and the bioactive compounds responsible for lion's mane's cognitive effects (hericenones and erinacines) — is a fraction of what the label implies.

Our extract is dual-extracted (hot water and alcohol) to capture both the water-soluble beta-glucans and the alcohol-soluble terpenoids, standardized to ≥30% beta-glucans, and verified by independent third-party testing to contain no added grain, starch, or fillers. Every batch is screened for heavy metals to USP limits, tested for pesticides and microbial contaminants, and produced in a cGMP-certified facility.

Quality + Standards

Are iLLPiLL supplements FDA approved

No dietary supplement is 'FDA approved' — by law, the FDA does not pre-approve supplements the way it approves pharmaceutical drugs. What the FDA does regulate is supplement labeling, claims, manufacturing standards, and post-market safety, and iLLPiLL is fully compliant with all of them.

Our products are manufactured in the United States in an FDA-registered, cGMP-certified facility that meets the standards set out in 21 CFR Part 111 (Current Good Manufacturing Practice for Dietary Supplements) and applicable sections of 21 CFR Part 117 (for foods). These regulations govern every step of production: ingredient identity verification, purity and potency testing, contamination controls, batch documentation, and record-keeping. Every batch of iLLPiLL is tested to confirm that what's on the label is exactly what's in the bottle.

Where are iLLPiLL supplements manufactured

iLLPiLL is manufactured in the United States in an FDA-registered, cGMP-certified facility that has been in operation for over 20 years. The facility holds certifications to ISO 9001:2015 and NSF GMP standards — consistent with FDA and international cGMP regulatory requirements.

Every ingredient is tested for identity, purity, and the presence of heavy metals, pesticides, and other contaminants before it enters production. Every finished lot is independently tested for microbiological safety before packaging. These controls exist to ensure that what's on the label is exactly what's in the bottle.

Are iLLPiLL supplements third-party certified

Our supplements are manufactured in an FDA-registered facility that is cGMP-certified and holds NSF GMP and ISO 9001:2015 certifications — independent standards confirming the facility operates under rigorous quality, sanitation, and process controls that meet or exceed FDA cGMP requirements. In addition, every batch of iLLPiLL is independently tested by a third-party laboratory for ingredient identity, potency, and contamination, including heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants.

We are working toward NSF product-level certification — including NSF Contents Certified and NSF Certified for Sport® — which we plan to roll out across our product line in the future. These product-level certifications are not yet in place.

To confirm current certification status, please refer to the product label or contact us.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Why does the color of my iLLPiLL tablet supplements vary from one bottle to the next

iLLPiLL is formulated with plant-derived botanical ingredients — including ashwagandha root and lion's mane mushroom — and natural raw materials vary slightly in color from harvest to harvest.

Minor variation between batches is expected and is a sign that we don't use artificial colorants or dyes to mask it. The active ingredients in every batch are standardized to deliver the same potency and efficacy regardless of visual differences, and every lot is independently tested to confirm it meets specification before release.

Do iLLPiLL supplements contain gluten, GMOs, soy, or common allergens

iLLPiLL is formulated to be accessible to as many people as possible. Our products are made without:

  • Gluten and wheat
  • GMOs
  • Soy
  • Dairy, milk, and eggs
  • Peanuts and tree nuts
  • Yeast
  • Artificial flavors and artificial colors

The delivery vehicle is plant-derived (vegetable cellulose), making iLLPiLL suitable for vegetarian and vegan use. Our manufacturing facility follows documented allergen control protocols, with separation procedures and post-production testing to confirm specification.

If you have a diagnosed food allergy, sensitivity, or intolerance, please review the complete ingredient list on the product label before use. Discontinue use and consult your physician if you experience any adverse reaction.
